Inspiring, fun and a well done movie.. A highly motivational and inspirational movie I had the pleasure of watching during GDC in San Francisco, it reminded me why I was there and how many amazingly passionate individuals surrounded me. A must-see for anyone with any interest in video games, independent development, or indeed creative arts in general.. Fun movie to watch and reminds me of that one indie game movie from 2011 (the one that with FEZ, Super meat boy, Braid etc). Would really enjoy a documentary following just one project from start to finish but that is another topic for another day.. Concerning my play time on Steam I watched the entire movie DRM-free from IndieGameStand so I am basing this review off the whole movie. This movie is a fantastic and beautiful documentary covering the motivations, industry and process of Indie Games. There's a huge number of games represented and it covers game jams and awards for the personal journeys included more than the equally excellent (but slightly more personal) Indie Game the Movie. The soundtrack is great, the visual artistry is great and the sheer fun of watching it is outstanding. It'll make you feel good watching it and is quite frank about some of the slightly darker sides of making games in this day and age.. This is terrible. You know how everyone's saying it's bad and you want to watch it to see how bad it is? Don't. It's not even entertaining in that manner. It's a bunch of people saying things that don't even mean anything. It's just terrible in every aspect. They shot it on a pretty good camera though.. If you're heavily into game development you'll probably buy this regardless, but be forewarned that this is mostly an 'artist' self congratulatory circle-jerk; A lot of pretension, very little competence. The few competents like those behind The Stanley Parable are offset by people uttering lines like; "You don't have to be, like, this nerdy sort of stereotype, you can actually be like a very artsy creative person..."Having seen Indie Game: The Movie, I was hoping this would be as good, and though the production quality seems to be of the same standard, the cast of people given face time is pretty cringe worthy overall. My advice is to skip this unless you're desperate for anything remotely related to game development.. It's pretty good.GameLoading offers a broader look at a wider cross-section of the independent games scene, a bit more relaxed and conversational and a bit less cinematic than similar docs.It seems to assume a lot on the part of its audience, as if it was made more for the community itself than for others outside it. But it does highlight people scraping by (and failing) rather than just showing big successes, which is far more useful to people who aspire to make games, so that is in service to its audience. If non-industry viewers can keep up, they'll see some interesting stuff come together, and maybe they'll come out of it thinking of games as something more complex.. A warm, accesible and inclusive documentary. If you're interested in games and game development you need to watch this.. Posted: 25 Apr @ 12:40pmCan't even watch it because video is only available in Streaming "An unexpected network error occurred while trying to stream this video." Thought Streaming could still play like how youtube allow you to buffer the video first. If you have a bad internet connection or if you think you might have a bad internet connection don't buy it or at least wait until they allow you to download it like the "Free To Play" Documentary (which is free to watch compared to this).Considering getting a refund if no Download feature is given soon.Tried to Contact Steam Support but the product(GameLoading: Rise of the Indies) was not available at steam support when I searched in the "What Product are you having an issue with?" it comes up with "Oops! We came up empty."________________________________________________________________Edit: 29 Apr @ 10:26pmStream still complains about "An unexpected network error occurred while trying to stream this video." kept telling me to go to visit the FAQ for troubleshooting information.Check to see if download feature is available, download feature not given yet.Tries to Contact Steam Support FINALLY the product is available there on the Ask a Question! (I love Steam Support with the previous experiences I had with them they've helped me before several times was very happy to know that it's finally there)Selected the "What type of problem are you having?" picked the "Game\/DLC Question"Selected the "Performance Issue" Suddenly Step 2 pops up redirecting me to "http:\/\/gameloading.tv"tries other option "Installation Issue" same step 2 pops up, tries another option "Cannot connect to game servers" same step 2 pops up Me: "!@$!#%!@$" TRIES ALL THE OPTION! same step 2 pops up.Finally gives up and go to their website, found nothing helpful there at all just advertising about the product as expected.Starting to regret purchase.10\/10 Starting to question life choices.________________________________________________________________Edit: 17 May @ 12:03amI sent a Question to Steam Support on 29th of April received reply from Steam Support on 13th of May (I'm sure other people had worse), told me to Troubleshoot Network Connectivity but it doesn't seem to resolve it so I sent my MSINFO32 info reports to them and some other detail.Waiting for response. Not sure if this 90 minute movie worth the wait anymore.Please... Just please.. Give us a download feature already..9001\/9000 Considering on getting Cisco certified and purchasing Enterprise-Grade network for house just to get better connection.________________________________________________________________Edit: 20 May @ 1:19amReceived a response from Steam Support today told me to do another test, Steam Support is like my new IT teacher I learn more stuff about IT from Steam Support than my old IT teacher at school :D "hurray for Steam Support"Replied to Steam Support message and sent them the test result. 100\/100 I feel like an Alpha Tester for Steam Video Streaming technology (And I even have to pay it like the other Early Access product!) yay for no download option!(What the hell is wrong with me I should probably just let this rest already @_@ "I'm not even going to review the actual content of the Film at this rate" I've been robbed from my sanity, this is going to be the story of how I lost my sanity)________________________________________________________________Edit: 26 May @ 8:54pmIt has been a month now and I've finally reached my limit. They had more than enough time to provide us with a download option but they didn't.I have never been this disappointed for a very long time.Steam Support replied to me today. They finally gave me the option for a refund. But it's not going to be refunded to my bank account. And this is what they told me "As with most software products, we do not offer refunds or exchanges on games, DLC or in-game items purchased on our website or through the Steam Client. We can issue you store credit for the amount of your purchase into your Steam Wallet. The credit will also remove the title or item from your account. Please confirm if you would like us to proceed with this credit."I'm fine with that, I can use it to buy something else better that is made by people that actually care about their paying customer. You all can't see this but I am REALLY, REALLY UPSET as I'm typing this.It was all smiley face, lots of joking and messing around at the beginning but it finally turned into a frowning face at the end.I had faith in them that they would give us the option for download but nope they decided to waste my time instead. To the people who is in charge of this 'product' this is what I have to say to you "You may be able to refund my *money*, but you will never be able to refund THE TIME THAT YOU MADE ME WASTE JUST TO TRY TO WATCH A G*****N 90 MINUTE FILM ON AN UNWATCHABLE STREAM INSTEAD OF PROVIDING A DOWNLOADABLE VERSION"That is all.Oh one more thing that I almost forgot.-9001\/9000 Go learn customer service please and yes I'd like my refund now.________________________________________________________________Edit: 30 May @ 11:57amSteam Support refunded me from this mess.10\/10 I love you Steam Support <3P.S. F#$K this S%@T I'm outta here lol. A heart-warming look into the indie dev scene. Well-made and highly inspiring! Good cross-section of devs interviewed; well-known faces like Rami Ismail plus relative unknowns. Focuses a lot more (but not entirely) on the positive side of the scene compared to Indie Game: The Movie (also worth a watch!). Not likely to interest you if you're not into the artsy side of games, but you might still find it interesting nonetheless.
